Usability/Accessibility Research and Consulting's (UARC) state-of-the-art facilities were developed in collaboration with experts in facility design and usability and accessibility research. Drawing on the experience and expertise of the best labs in government, education, and industry, UARC incorporates cutting-edge technologies and multipurpose spaces within an aesthetically appealing and accessible business environment.

Each of the rooms in the facility has multiple purposes and capabilities.

All spaces protect the privacy of individuals and accommodate those with disabilities.

UARC's facilities are available for use by businesses, organizations, and university scholars and students, and can be used for various purposes, such as focus groups, teaching, training, user testing, videoconferencing and audioconferencing.

Rates

Our state-of-the art facilities are available on a fee-for-service basis to organizations, researchers, practitioners, and others. We offer hospitality services (including reception and a kitchenette) and digital video and audio recording and production services.

Meetings

Price includes: use of equipment (LCD projector, computer, DVD/VCR player, document camera, wireless microphone, SMART Board), beverages, light snacks, technical support, reception, audio recording

  • $120.00 per hour (per hour charge for 1-3 hours)
  • $400.00 per half day (4 hours)
  • $400.00 + $100.00 per hour (5-7 hours)
  • $800.00 per day (8 hours)

Video recording is available at the additional cost of $25.00 per hour, $50.00 per half day, and $100.00 per full day

Focus Groups

Price includes: use of equipment (LCD projector, computer, DVD/VCR player, document camera, wireless microphone, SMART Board), beverages, light snacks, technical support, reception, audio recording

  • $500.00 per session (2 hours)

Video recording is available at the additional cost of $50.00 per session

Facilitator for session, full meals, participant recruitment, and incentives can be arranged at an additional cost.

Videoconferencing

Price includes: use of equipment (LCD projector, computer, DVD/VCR player, document camera, wireless microphone, SMART Board), beverages, light snacks, technical support, reception, audio recording

  • $125.00 per hour plus line charges (ISDN and IP available). Receiving end must have either ISDN or IP line available & a video phone

The testing space is designed for individual and small group usability evaluations, collaborative design, interviews, and individualized training sessions. It is equipped with:

  • Three computers with screen recording and picture-in-picture capabilities
  • Digital video and audio recording

  • Sound masking

AV Control and Observation

AV Control Room

The AV control room provides master control of UARC's equipment and AV feeds through a touch-screen control panel and two 37" LCD monitors. Its other capabilities include:

  • Mixing and production equipment to create composite output for live viewing and recording
  • Audio/video editing
  • Live audio/video feeds at three observation stations for watching focus groups and test activities

The focus group space has digital video and audio recording capabilities that can be operated from a separate control room. The space is equipped with:

Training and Observation Room

The computer training room supports a variety of training and research activities. The space is equipped with:

  • Workstations for nine learners and one instructor
  • Projector, whiteboards, and digital video and audio recording
  • Touch-screen control panel that enables the instructor to demonstrate problems a learner may be encountering and to solve them collaboratively
  • Configurable room furniture that encourages interaction and collaboration
  • Videoconferencing of sessions with a variety of recording media
  • Live audio/video feeds for clients to observe focus group and test activities
